Gordon was included in the 26-man England squad for the competition in Germany. Given that he was chosen above Jack Grealish of Manchester City, fans anticipated the winger would have opportunities to shine in the competition. However, he only played two minutes, coming on as a late substitute in the 0-0 group stage draw with Slovenia. For the remainder of the competition, Southgate did not deploy Gordon at all.

Gordon has now opened up on his Euro 2024 snub by Southgate, who departed the Three Lions after England lost the final against Spain. So far this season, the England winger has not found the same form for Newcastle as he showed last season, however, he has received the call-up for the Three Lions' Nations League clashes.

Speaking to ITV, Gordon said: “I was disappointed, because I believe in myself so much. I feel unstoppable, especially at that point of the season I had just had.‌

“I felt like no-one could defend me, no-one could deal with me over 90 minutes. I felt like I was ready to and really impress people and help the country win the trophy.‌

“To envision what I envisioned… to what it was, it was disappointing.”

Gordon added when questioned if he spoke with Southgate or if the manager gave an explanation for his exclusion: “Nothing, really. I didn’t ever really ask. I’m not really that type of guy. I just like to get on with what I’ve got to do.

‌“I believe in myself, so even from the bench I was thinking, ‘If he brings me on, I’m going to be ready, I’m going to change the game.’ But it didn’t happen.”

The Newcastle winger will be hopeful that he will have more playing action under interim boss Lee Carsley when England take on Ireland and Finland later this week.
