Gavi said he was really looking forward to going back to Barcelona. After welcoming Frenkie de Jong back to the fold, Barcelona have brought in another key midfielder.
It was a shame to see Gavi out of action for so long due to injury. The fans and the club haven't forgotten him, and after a long 11-month absence, the Barca star finally returned to the team after the October international break.
Gavi's knee surgery has meant he's been on the bench for Hansi Flick's starting line-up at Barcelona, but the German coach has been impressed with his performances in training.
As the return date drew closer, fans were getting more and more excited, and he was even included on the bench for the 5-1 La Liga win over Sevilla.
It was great to see the team score five or more goals for the fourth time this season, but it was Gavi who got the biggest cheer from the home crowd when he came off the bench and wore the captain's armband.
The 20-year-old showed his usual determination in the final minutes and should be back to full strength in the coming weeks. By then, Flick will be enjoying the ups and downs of happiness. I'm sure the return of De Jong and Gavi will give the German coach a boost. Given how smoothly and successfully they've started, Barcelona will have more strength and confidence to win the championship.
"I'm really pleased to be back in the team." I've been waiting for this moment for months, according to Marca. "I'd like to thank everyone who made this happen." Gavi said. "The worst thing is not being able to play." It's tough to watch the team play from the sidelines. It's important to enjoy every moment and appreciate everything. "I feel really fortunate to be here today."
Barcelona will play Bayern Munich at home in Catalonia on 23 October, and then they'll go to Real Madrid to take part in the Spanish national derby three days later.
