Moisés Caicedo's incredible second-half goal evened out a penalty from Bruno Fernandes, and Chelsea managed to salvage a 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Sunday. It was a bit of a bummer for United, who were celebrating their first Premier League game since the sacking of manager Erik ten Hag.

Chelsea are currently placed fourth in the table with 18 points, while United, who had interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy in the dugout, are 13th with 12 points after 10 games.

United's captain Fernandes scored from the penalty spot in the 70th minute after Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez caught Rasmus Højlund's foot when diving for the ball. Fernandes managed to get the better of Sanchez, prompting Van Nistelrooy to leap in the air in celebration.

But the mood at Old Trafford changed quickly four minutes later when Casemiro didn't clear Chelsea's corner completely, leaving Caicedo to shoot a low kick that André Onana managed to just get a hand on, but couldn't stop it going into the bottom corner.

Moises Caicedo's fantastic goal earned Chelsea a point at Old Trafford. "It was a great opportunity to score," he said. I got it done. "I'm really happy," Caicedo told BBC Sport.

"We knew that if we waited too long to equalise, it would be difficult. I'm really pleased to have made it level.

"We played well and deserved to win." We knew it was going to be a challenging game, but we were ready for it. I'm really pleased for the team. "It was a great fight."

Ten Hag was fired on Monday, with United struggling in 14th place in the Premier League. Ruben Amorim was announced as the new replacement on Friday and will start on 11 November.

One thing Ten Hag kept coming back to was United's inability to score goals. Only Crystal Palace and Southampton have fewer than United's nine, and it was more of the same on Sunday.

Alejandro Garnacho came close to breaking the deadlock in added time, sending a long shot just over the crossbar. Fernandes then missed a great chance seconds later, lashing a shot from the centre of the box well over the net.

Just before the final whistle, Garnacho worked the ball down the left before sending a cross to Joshua Zirkzee, whose shot deflected off a Chelsea defender and over the net, to groans from the Old Trafford crowd.

Both teams had chances in a back-and-forth first half that wasn't a classic. Chelsea's Noni Madueke headed the ball into the post from close range after Cole Palmer's corner early in the game.

Marcus Rashford came close to scoring in style just before the halftime whistle when Fernandes chipped the ball over Chelsea defender Reece James, but Rashford's side-footed volley bounced off the crossbar.

There was a bit of a heated moment after United defender Lisandro Martínez caught Palmer's foot, but a VAR check decided it didn't warrant a red card.
