Bruno Fernandes insisted Manchester United's players won't need "extra energy" to motivate themselves to beat Manchester City in the derby this weekend.
United came from behind to win 2-1 against FC Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League league phase on Thursday night.
Manchester City will welcome United to the Etihad on Sunday and Pep Guardiola's side head into the clash in a crisis, having won just once in their last 10 matches.
Both Manchester clubs are enduring disappointing seasons. City became the first club to win four Premier League titles on the bounce last term but are suffering an almighty hangover and United are 13th in the table, with Ruben Amorim desperately trying to make improvements.
Fernandes was asked about the Manchester derby after United's win in the Europa League and told MUTV his teammates won't need any added incentive to deliver at the Etihad.
"These kind of games don't need extra energy," he said. "You know what it means to play a Manchester derby, you know how much it means for the city and fans, so we have to do everything we can to win.
"Also, as I said, we are not in the position we would like to be in the Premier League, which is the same in the Europa League, so we need points and we need to win. It's Manchester City in the Manchester derby but it's just another game that we want and we have to win."
Fernandes reflected on the performance against Plzen and added: "We knew it was going to be a tough game. They run a lot and do man marking, so it's difficult to get on the ball and get away from their men.
"We had some good moments in the first half building up low but in the final third we would have managed the game a little better. But we knew it was going to be like a game they wanted to be a transition game and many times it will be like that but in the end we found a way to win the game.
"We had a lot of chances. Sometimes we have to be a little bit more eager to score that goal and kill the game, but we did it at the end and we're happy for that.
"We showed great spirit. In these kind of games, Man United come to the Czech Republic and we have to win this game. We can't hide from being the club who has to win the game.
"I think we should have done a little bit even better in the end. We had a few transition moments where we could have killed the game and when we don't kill, we have to run back quickly.
"We did that a lot of times. When the game becomes a transition game, your legs become heavy and it's difficult. The pitch was also not in a great condition and the ball changes direction.
"We want to go through and be in the highest [Europa League league phase] positions so we can avoid playing two more games and we have to win the next games ahead. We didn't start the Europa League the way we wanted but we want to make the final of this competition."
