After a difficult spell in Saudi Arabia, where his progress was marred by injuries, Neymar finally looks set for a return to his youth club, Santos.
The attacking superstar may soon rejoin the Brazilian outfit, as he embarks on the final chapter of his career.
In the midst of speculation linking him with a return to Santos, Barcelona sporting director Deco was recently asked about the Brazilian and the prospect of him returning to Catalonia.
In a recent interaction, Deco was asked about whether or not Barcelona ever thought about bringing back Neymar.
“Neymar’s return to Barça was always far-fetched. Since he moved to Saudi, we knew he was a very expensive player, especially in terms of financial fair play,” he said (h/t SPORT).
Talking about Neymar, Deco expressed his delight at the prospect of his return to Santos.
“The most important thing is for Neymar to return to playing football. It will bring joy to himself and to others. I honestly don’t know what he will do, but him being happy is the most important thing,” he said.
Deco went on to hail Neymar one of the best players in world football, especially when he is in his element.
“At his best, Neymar is one of the best players in the world. He still is and he always will be. He’s welcome at any club in the world. An operation regarding him can never be ruled out, but I see him returning to Brazil right now,” he concluded.
