The San Francisco 49ers have a superstar running back in Christian McCaffrey.
But McCaffrey is injury prone, and that creates a dilemma.
When McCaffrey is out, how do you replace him?
In the past, the 49ers haven't quite had a player even in the same mold, which forces the offense to be run totally differently.
SI's Grant Cohn has a suggestion: San Francisco should draft an RB who does the same things well as McCaffrey.
His pitch: Syracuse running back LeQuint Allen, specifically with a fourth-round pick.
"He's 6'0", 204 lbs and he has 32-inch arms, so he's built like a wide receiver and he runs routes like one, too," Cohn writes about Allen. "Last season, he caught 64 passes for 520 receiving yards. He also gained 1,021 rushing yards and scored 16 rushing touchdowns."
Cohn goes on to say that he's not comparing overall ability but just the type of skill set each player possesses.
Allen continued a strong, three-quarter-century tradition of Syracuse running backs.
Maybe his next stop can be the Bay Area to help out McCaffrey and the 49ers.
