Chelsea will travel to Craven Cottage on Sunday to face ninth-placed Fulham in their 33rd Premier League game of the season, as they hope to regain their qualification for the UEFA Champions League. Fulham, on the other hand, suffered a 0-1 defeat to Bournemouth and currently have a total of 48 points, six points fewer than Chelsea, who are currently sixth in the table after drawing 2-2 with Ipswich last Sunday.
The reason for Fulham's loss to Bournemouth was Antoine Semenyo's winning goal in the first minute of the game, and Fulham have conceded the first goal in their last four matches. Manager Marco Silva will be disappointed with his team's performance in the Premier League. The home side have alternated between wins and losses in their last seven top-flight games, dropping 12 points during this period. Considering the six-point gap between them and Aston Villa, who are in seventh place, Fulham still have a chance to qualify for European competitions. This spot would at least be enough for them to participate in the English League Cup, and it might also be sufficient for them to qualify for the UEFA Europa League. If Fulham wants to make a late push for a European spot, they must significantly improve their defense, as they have conceded eight goals and failed to score more than one goal in their last four matches. Silva's team have also alternated between wins and losses in their last seven home games, although they have beaten teams such as Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, and Tottenham Hotspur in these matches.
Chelsea were 0-2 down at half-time and had to salvage a point against the relegation candidates Ipswich. It is worth noting that their 34 shots on the day were approximately twice their average number of shots per 90 minutes this season (16.4 shots). On Thursday, the Blues were also beaten 2-1 by Legia Warsaw in the second leg of the quarter-finals of the league cup, but they advanced to the semi-finals thanks to their 3-0 victory in the first leg on April 10. Manager Enzo Maresca has faced intense scrutiny in the second half of the season, although his team is currently only one point behind Manchester City, who are in fifth place and hold the last Champions League qualification spot. However, Chelsea have failed to win three of their last four Premier League games, drawing two and scoring only three goals. Maresca's last top-flight encounter with Silva was on December 26, when they lost 1-2, but that was the only defeat for the club in their last five matches against Fulham, with the Blues winning three times.
Possible starting lineup for Fulham:
Leno; Castagne, Andersen,Robinson; Lukic, Reed; Iwobi, Pereira, Sessegnon; Jiménez
Possible starting lineup for Chelsea:
Sanchez; Gusto, Chalobah, Colwill, Cucurella; Caicedo, Fernández; Mudryk, Palmer, Neto; Jackson
