After all Serie A fixtures on Easter Monday were postponed due to the death of Pope Francis, Juventus had their match against Parma rescheduled for Wednesday, where they suffered a 1-0 defeat at the lively Stadio Tardini.
The Bianconeri managed just a 1-0 loss to the lower-ranked Crociati, with no shots on target in the first half and a late surge of efforts failing to secure an equalizer. Adding to their woes, striker Dusan Vlahovic, who has struggled for goals, was substituted at halftime due to an injury.
Recent victories by Bologna and Lazio have made Juventus's pursuit of Champions League qualification more challenging, as they compete with five other teams for the two remaining spots.
Appointed to replace Thiago Motta last month, interim coach Igor Tudor has now experienced his first loss since returning to Turin, following two wins and a draw. Further stumbles could jeopardize his position.
Juventus needs to qualify for UEFA's premier competition not only for prestige but also to avoid potential financial difficulties if they miss out on Italy's top four.
With mounting pressure, Tudor must ensure Juventus avoids an upset against bottom-dwelling Monza, whom they defeated 2-1 earlier this season.
Although Monza famously beat Juventus twice in their first Serie A season, they have lost their last three encounters, including a 2-1 home loss in November.
After a promising Serie A debut, Monza's momentum faded mid-last season, and since coach Raffaele Palladino left for Fiorentina, they have performed poorly in the 2024-25 campaign.
They have lost 22 games and won only two, leaving them 11 points from safety and virtually certain for relegation.
Reinstated amid a turbulent season, Alessandro Nesta has overseen seven losses in nine matches since mid-February, with Monza's last win dating back to January 13.
Recently, the team headed for Serie B has endured four straight defeats, including a close 1-0 loss to Napoli where they kept the Scudetto contenders scoreless until the 72nd minute.
If results turn against them this weekend, relegation could be confirmed with four rounds left, allowing focus on a summer overhaul.
A key starter under Igor Tudor, after being overlooked by Thiago Motta, Juventus's leading scorer Dusan Vlahovic is questionable for Sunday's match due to a thigh strain from the Parma game.
Paired for just the second time with striker Randal Kolo Muani, Vlahovic had minimal influence before being subbed, so it's unclear who will lead the line in Tudor's preferred 3-4-2-1 setup.
Kenan Yildiz was fit enough for a substitute appearance midweek and might start, but Teun Koopmeiners continues to deal with an Achilles injury.
Juventus will also miss Federico Gatti (leg injury), Samuel Mbangula (thigh injury), and long-term absentees Juan Cabal, Arkadiusz Milik, and Bremer.
Monza will be without Keita Balde, Danilo D'Ambrosio, Armando Izzo, and captain Matteo Pessina, who has missed most of the season.
Without Balde, either Silvere Ganvoula or Gianluca Caprari is likely to join Dany Mota up front, as Monza averages just 0.76 goals per game this season.
Juventus possible starting lineup:
Di Gregorio; Kalulu, Veiga, Kelly; McKennie, Locatelli, Thuram, Cambiaso; Gonzalez, Yildiz; Kolo Muani
Monza possible starting lineup:
Turati; Pereira, Caldirola, Carboni; Birindelli, Castrovilli, Bianco, Akpa Akpro, Kyriakopoulos; Mota, Caprari
