Ousmane Dembélé's early goal was the sole difference between the two capital clubs after 90 minutes of their semifinal encounter.
Arsenal must secure a win at Parc des Princes next Wednesday to advance to the Champions League final, following a 1-0 home defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their semifinal tie.
Mikel Arteta's team faces a tough challenge in France after a subdued performance for much of the first leg at home, allowing Luis Enrique's side to return across the Channel with a well-earned lead.
Remarkably, Arsenal fell behind within the first four minutes. PSG had excessive time on the ball in midfield, enabling Ousmane Dembélé to switch play to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia effortlessly. The agile Georgian winger evaded Jurrien Timber unchallenged and delivered a precise cut-back for Dembélé, who finished clinically to open the scoring.
