Man Utd vs West Ham

Match preview

With a three-goal lead from the first leg at San Mames, Man United looked set to reach their ninth European final earlier this week, and Ruben Amorim's men did so in emphatic fashion against Athletic Bilbao, who went down 7-1 on aggregate in the Europa League semi-finals.

A 4-1 victory at the Theatre of Dreams was more than enough for the Red Devils to book a final against Tottenham Hotspur in less than a fortnight's time, meaning one of the two English giants will be rewarded with Champions League football after a disastrous Premier League campaign.

Man United are currently on a six-match winless run in the top flight, with their most recent sobering afternoon in the competition coming last Sunday when a seven-goal thriller at the Gtech Community Stadium ended with Thomas Frank's Brentford claiming maximum points.

With just two points from their last six top-flight outings, the Red Devils sit 15th in the Premier League table ahead of this weekend's trip to West Ham, and have yet to reach the 40-point mark with just three games remaining in the season.

After scoring his first Old Trafford goal in Thursday night's win over Athletic Bilbao, former Chelsea starlet Mason Mount is looking to make a trophy-laden impact on Man United before the end of the season, with the midfielder scoring three goals in his last two appearances.

West Ham have fallen from grace since the departure of former manager David Moyes, and Sunday's visit to Old Trafford looks set to be their worst Premier League finish since finishing 20th in 2010-11.

It is only the weakness of the newly promoted sides that has spared the Hammers from an all-out battle for safety over the final three games of the season, with Graham Potter's men sitting a comfortable 15 points clear of 18th-placed Ipswich Town with nine to play.

West Ham's winless run in the top flight was extended to eight games on Sunday afternoon, but the East Londoners will take heart from sharing the spoils with Europa League finalists Tottenham, who took an early lead through Wilson Odobert.

Potter's men responded swiftly, however, with England international Jarrod Bowen scoring his 10th Premier League goal of the season to strengthen his case for a place in Thomas Tuchel's international plans as the 2026 World Cup approaches next year.

West Ham have lost on each of their last four visits to Old Trafford in all competitions, with their last success at the ground coming in September 2021, when a lone Manuel Lanzini strike was enough to send the Hammers through to the fourth round of the EFL Cup.

Team News

Man United will be without the services of Joshua Zirkzee, who has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a hamstring injury.

The Dutchman is joined in the medical room by two other first-team regulars, Lisandro Martinez (knee) and Diogo Dalot (calf), leaving the Red Devils' defence weakened.

There are also a couple of youngsters battling with problems on the red side of Manchester, with Ayden Heaven and Toby Collyer unlikely to feature this weekend.

West Ham have a number of long-term absentees, including striker Michail Antonio, who has not featured since December following a car accident.

Summer signing Crysencio Summerville has not enjoyed the London debut he had hoped for, having been sidelined in January with a hamstring strain.
