Ajax take on Twente at the Johan Cruyff Arena, hoping the football gods will grant them one last favor on the final day of the 2024-25 Eredivisie season. With the title race now out of the question, all Ajax can do is focus on winning this game against Tux and hope PSV Eindhoven fail against Sparta in Rotterdam.

If PSV Eindhoven successfully defend their title this weekend, the 2024-25 season will go down as one of the most dramatic defeats in Eredivisie history, marking a bitter end to a season that Ajax had firmly in control of. De Gordenzoning were favourites to win the Dutch title, needing just six points from their final five games, but were beaten 4-0 by Utrecht last month, leaving Ajax with just two points from their final four games.

A midweek trip to Groningen dealt them a heavy blow, with Francesco Farioli's side taking the lead through Anton Gaj and pulling one back through Wout Weghorst after Tom van Bergen's equaliser, but ultimately the ten-man hosts conceded a dramatic equaliser in stoppage time through Timmen Bloekser. That result opened the door for PSV and the Borjas took advantage, beating Heracles by four goals to take pole position in the league table with just one game remaining.

While the mood around the Johan Cruyff Arena may not have been positive this weekend, Farioli refused to give up, insisting in his pre-match press conference that "anything can happen in football".

Meanwhile, the game meant little to Twente, who are just three points ahead of seventh-placed Go Ahead Eagles but would still finish above Kvitova in the table even if they lost due to their better head-to-head record. After a strong showing last year, Tuk has had a mixed year in 2025, missing out on Europa League contention with just six wins, five draws and five losses in 16 games since the start of the season. Josef Austin’s side squandered a 2-1 lead at home to AZ Alkmaar last week, conceding two goals in the second half and suffering their fourth defeat in eight games, with just two wins in that time.

While the visitors will want to trouble Ajax more than anything this weekend, they have struggled on the road recently, winning just one of nine league games since the start of December.

Ajax predicted starting lineup:

Paschwell; Mokio, Harto, Sutalo, Rosa; Fitz-Gim, Henderson, Taylor; Traore, Brobbie, Goetz

Twente predicted starting lineup:

Anastol; Van Roy, Hilgers, Van Hollenbeek, Kuipers; Jolo, Sadilek; Roots, Stein, Frap; Van Wolfswinkel
