Philadelphia 76ers Propose Blockbuster Trade: Trading Joel Embiid for Duke's Rising Star Cooper Flagg

Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers has not emerged as a major trade rumor, which may surprise many given the widespread speculation about other star players in the NBA.

Although the 76ers' challenges might stem from Embiid's ongoing injuries, trade discussions surrounding him have been less frequent than expected.

In a proposed trade scenario from Fade Away World involving the Dallas Mavericks, the 76ers would part ways with Embiid in exchange for the No. 1 draft pick, Klay Thompson, Daniel Gafford, P.J. Washington, along with a 2031 first-round pick and a 2031 second-round pick.

"Embiid's impact in the paint could greatly enhance the Mavericks' defense and scoring inside. However, his health remains a concern after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in April 2025.

"For the 76ers, moving Embiid enables a shift toward a younger roster. Cooper Flagg's potential as an emerging star offers a solid base for rebuilding, while adding veterans like Thompson, Gafford, and Washington provides immediate depth and leadership. This could allow Philadelphia to reset and build long-term success around Tyrese Maxey," as noted in the proposal.

If Embiid maintains his health, this trade might benefit the Mavericks, with Anthony Davis potentially playing power forward alongside Embiid at center, an arrangement Davis has shown interest in.

Still, it's challenging to justify acquiring a player who appeared in only 19 games last season and 39 the previous year, given his persistent injuries and uncertain status.

When healthy, Embiid is undoubtedly among the top three or four players globally, having averaged an impressive 34.7 points in the 2023-24 season, following 33.1 points on 54.8% shooting the year before.

Embiid's talent is undeniable, but his injury history is a significant hurdle.
