Osasuna will travel to Mendizorroza on Saturday in Matchday 38 to take on Alaves in a bid to secure a place in the European competition. The visitors are currently outside the top eight, while the hosts are in 14th place after recently securing safety.
Alaves will go into Saturday's game with a light heart after winning three of their last five games to retain their top flight status with one game remaining. After a narrow win over Real Sociedad, Alaves played out a hard-fought 0-0 draw with Atletico Madrid, followed by a 0-1 defeat away to Athletic Bilbao. However, they soon followed up with a 1-0 win at home against Valencia and another victory away to relegated Valladolid on Sunday.
Quique Garcia's penalty in the 18th minute was enough for Alaves to secure three points at the Estadio José Zorrilla, thus guaranteeing their place in the top flight and ensuring they can look forward to competing in the top flight for a third consecutive season. Eduardo Cudés' side can also be proud of having kept four clean sheets in their last five games, having not conceded more than one goal in any of their previous eight games since a 2-0 loss to Rayo Vallecano in late March.
Osasuna repeated that feat on Sunday against relegation-threatened Espanyol, with Ante Budimir and Raul Garcia scoring once each to make it four straight home wins and move level on points with eighth-placed Rayo Vallecano, who hold the head-to-head advantage. The ninth-placed side are just a point off seventh-placed Celta Vigo, meaning they could qualify for the Europa League, the English Football Association Championship or miss out on European football altogether.
While a number of variations are possible, Osasuna will be looking to take all three points to give themselves the best chance, though those hopes could be dampened by a record of just two wins in 18 La Liga away games this season. Real Madrid's record against Alaves is at least quite good. In the last 10 encounters, Real Madrid has won 8 games, drawn 2 games, and kept 7 clean sheets.
Alaves predicted starting lineup:
Civella; Tenalia, Garces, Mourinho, Sanchez; Blanco, Guevera; Vicente, Guridi, Alena; Keck
Osasuna predicted starting lineup:
Herrera; Arezo, Boimho, Catena, Cruz; Toro, Ibanez; R. Garcia, Oroz, Zaragoza; Budimir
