It's unfortunate to see the decline in the career of former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz, who was one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL when healthy.

However, injuries have limited him to mostly backup roles since then, except for his 2021 season with the Indianapolis Colts.

While Wentz is not the same player he once was, it's surprising that he lacks a starting opportunity on a less competitive team.

His last full season as a starter saw him throw for 3,563 yards, 27 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. His eight-game run with the Washington Commanders ended poorly with nine interceptions, marking his most recent starting chance.

Now, there may be an opportunity for Wentz with the New Orleans Saints, as noted by Bleacher Report's Moe Moton, who connected the two on Saturday morning.

In seven games (six starts) as a rookie last season, Spencer Rattler threw for 1,317 yards, four touchdowns, and five interceptions, with a 57 percent completion rate, making him the most experienced option in the Saints' quarterback room.

Perhaps rookies like second-round pick Tyler Shough, Jake Haener, and Rattler will compete effectively in training camp, but the Saints should add veteran depth to challenge them. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Haener is sidelined with an oblique injury. Wentz could motivate the young players and add value with his strong arm and play-extending skills.

Given the Saints' quarterback uncertainty after Derek Carr's retirement, signing the former No. 2 overall pick from the 2016 NFL Draft could be a smart move.

Wentz has experience with successful teams, including his time with the Kansas City Chiefs, and his mentorship and veteran leadership might help the Saints improve.
