All 211 FIFA member associations received a letter on Wednesday outlining the governing body's new, stricter anti-racism powers.
The letter from FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafstrom highlights updates to FIFA’s disciplinary code, aimed at eliminating racism from football permanently.
FIFA’s new powers include:
1. Issuing fines up to £4.5m for cases of racist abuse.
2. Appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport against decisions involving racist abuse.
3. Intervening in cases where FIFA believes a member association has failed to properly investigate and prosecute racist abuse.
Last week, FIFA President Gianni Infantino called for worldwide criminal prosecutions in cases of racism in football.
