Norway maintained their position at the top of Group I and kept their 100% record intact with a narrow but deserved 1-0 win over Estonia, staying in pole position to qualify for their first FIFA World Cup since 1998.

Coming into this game on the back of a convincing victory over Italy, Norway were expected to win, but Estonia put in a strong performance and only conceded the first goal after 30 minutes.

The normally prolific Norwegians failed to score before half-time, with Europe’s top scorers in this qualifying cycle missing chance after chance late in the first half.

Norway finally took the lead in the 61st minute. A fortunate bounce allowed Martin Ødegaard to pass to Haaland, and despite his initial shot being blocked, the Manchester City striker was on hand to tap in the rebound.

Despite Norway's dominance throughout the match, Estonia rallied late and were once again thwarted by the woodwork. Maksim Paskotši's deflected shot spun awkwardly towards the goal, only to bounce to safety off the inside of Orjan Nyland's post. This was the closest the Blueshirts came to rescuing an unlikely point, and they dropped down to fourth in Group I.

Norway have won four consecutive World Cup qualifiers and six consecutive games in all competitions. They have not lost since November last year, scoring 22 goals in six games. Their huge points and goal difference advantage suggests that Haaland and Odegaard may play in the World Cup next year.
