Two late goals ensured that Inter Milan maintained Europe’s unbeaten record against Asian opponents at the FIFA Club World Cup (CWC). They beat Urawa Red Diamonds 2–1 in the Group E clash in Seattle, eliminating the Japanese side from the competition.
Valentin Carboni scored the winning goal in stoppage time, ending the Japanese club's hopes of progressing beyond the group stage.
Urawa Red Diamonds took the lead in the 11th minute. Takuro Kaneko found Ryoma Watanabe unmarked on the penalty spot with a cutback ball after a transition move involving Kaneko.
Inter Milan dominated possession throughout the match, but failed to score until the 78^(th) minute, when Lautaro Martínez brilliantly bicycle kicked Nicolò Barella's corner into the net.
Carboni's winning goal came in the second minute of stoppage time, assisted by fellow substitute Francesco Esposito.
Inter Milan's last opponent will be River Plate, which will be played on Wednesday. Urawa Red Diamonds' opponent is the Mexican team Monterrey.
