At the start of this year, Real Madrid's striker Vinicius Junior and rap icon Jay-Z, a successful entrepreneur, joined a consortium to acquire control of the Portuguese football club Futebol Clube de Alverca.

The club is based in Alverca de Ribatejo, approximately 30 kilometers from Lisbon, the Portuguese capital. They play at the Estadio Complexo Desportivo do FC Alverca, which has a capacity of 8,000, and will compete in the top division next season.

A 2-1 victory over Portimonense secured automatic promotion for the club. Vinicius celebrated the milestone on social media with a post exclaiming 'Vamos! Let’s go!!!!!!!!!', signaling FC Alverca's return to the elite level of Portuguese football after more than 20 years.

Takeover

Vinicius was supported in this venture by Roc Nation Sports Brazil, an agency under Roc Nation, which was founded by Jay-Z in 2008.

The deal was reportedly valued at around 10 million euros, involving negotiations between Roc Nation and Ricardo Vicintin, a 75-year-old Brazilian businessman who has held 77% of the club's SAD (limited sporting company) shares since July 2022.

Founded in 1939, FC Alverca has moved between the second tier and lower leagues, including a bankruptcy in 2005. The club returned to the second division in 2021, and it remains to be seen if they can compete against powerhouses like Benfica, Sporting, Braga, and FC Porto.
