The first round of Group H of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 took place at TQL Stadium on Wednesday, with Salzburg (Austria) beating Pachuca (Mexico) 2-1.
Salzburg attacked the opponent with high pressure from the start. Although they were in a pinch, they managed to survive with some great saves from 18-year-old goalkeeper Christian Zawieschitzky, who made his first team debut in this match, and took the lead in the 42nd minute of the first half.
Oscar Gloukh received a pass slightly to the left of the penalty area, and with a left-footed kick feint, he evaded the opponent's sliding tackle and took a controlled shot with his right foot. The ball shot into the right corner of the goal, making it 1-0.
It was sunny in Cincinnati at the start of the game, but gradually thick black clouds began to cover the sky above the stadium, and the game was suspended in the 9th minute of the second half.
After the players and spectators had left the stadium, a severe thunderstorm hit the stadium, and the match resumed about an hour and 40 minutes later when the weather had calmed down.
Soon after, Pachuca won a free kick near the right corner of the penalty area, and defender Bryan Gonzalez took a left-footed shot. The shot curved sharply and was sucked into the right side of the goal, tying the score in the 11th minute of the second half.
However, in the 31st minute of the second half, Salzburg took the lead again. After breaking down on the right wing, Mads Bidstrup advanced to the right side of the penalty area and delivered a soft cross with his right foot. Forward Karim Onisiwo headed the ball into the goal, making it the winning goal.
The second round took place on Sunday, and Salzburg, who had started with a win, will face Al Hilal. Pachuca will face Real Madrid .
