Ethan Mbappé's (18) first season at Lille OSC has come to an end in difficult circumstances. The younger brother of France captain and Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappé, 26, suffered a hamstring injury in the second half of his side's 2-0 win over Angers SCO last Sunday.

The Montreuil-born midfielder has been ruled out for the rest of the season. The younger Mbappé joined Lille last July, signing a three-year deal until 2027.

He's struggled with injuries this season and will undergo surgery on a hamstring injury next week.

In his first season with Les Dogues, Mbappé has made just eight Ligue 1 appearances for Bruno Génésio's side.

Prior to joining Lille, Mbappé played alongside his older brother Kylian at Paris Saint-Germain, with whom he made three Ligue 1 appearances last season, winning the league title and the Coupe de France in 2023-24.

Lille host Olympique de Marseille at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Sunday, having won their last three domestic fixtures. Lille have also won their last four Ligue 1 games at home, beating AJ Auxerre 3-1 a few weeks ago.

Ethan Mbappé helped PSG's U-19 side win the Championnat National a season ago.
