Villarreal, who are striving for Champions League qualification, will face relegation-threatened Leganes at the Ceramics Stadium on Wednesday, striving for a fourth consecutive victory. Leganes is currently struggling in the relegation zone and they hope to strengthen their relegation hopes with two consecutive wins.

Villarreal hopes to qualify for the Champions League for the first time since qualifying through the 2020-21 Europa League victory. The Yellow Submarine has 61 points in 35 games and is currently in fifth place and the last Champions League spot, only one point behind fourth-placed Athletic Bilbao and three points above sixth-placed Real Betis.

The Yellow Submarine has been in strong momentum recently, winning three consecutive games since losing 0-3 away to Celta Vigo on March 23. Villarreal won back-to-back home games against Espanyol and Osasuna before a dramatic 1-0 win away to Girona on Saturday, courtesy of Karl Eta Ayon's 89th-minute goal. After three straight wins, Marcelino's side are now aiming for four straight La Liga wins since beating Real Sociedad, Granada, Real Betis and Valencia in four straight games in February/March 2024. They fancy their chances of achieving that feat, having won five of their previous six top-flight games against Leganes, including a thrilling win in Butarque in December, where they twice came from behind to win 5-2.

Leganes gave their relegation bid a much-needed boost with a 3-2 home win over Espanyol on Sunday. Ceduba Cisse opened the scoring before 18-year-old forward Yann Diomand scored his first La Liga goal to give Leganes a two-goal lead at half-time. Borja Jimenez's side looked set to enjoy an easy afternoon when Marash Kumbulla's own goal made it 3-0 in the 60th minute, but the goal proved decisive, with the Spaniard scoring in the 79th and 98th minutes to leave Leganes in contention for all three points.

The win ended an eight-match winless run for the club, though they had drawn three games in a row before Sunday's narrow win and are now unbeaten in four games, which sees them sit 18th in the table, one point behind Alaves, with three games remaining against Villarreal, Las Palmas and Valladolid. Although Real Madrid celebrated their sixth league win at home at the weekend, they have won just one of their 17 La Liga away games this season, with the only victory coming against Barcelona in December. Leganes will be looking to pick up their second away win on Wednesday and they can perhaps draw inspiration from their 2-1 win in their most recent visit to the Estadio de Ceramica in March 2020.

Villarreal predicted starting lineup:

Luis Junior; Navarro, Foyth, Costa, Pedraza; Jeremiah, Comesana, Pareja, Baena; Pepe, Ayoze,

Leganes predicted starting lineup:

Dmitrovic; Rozier, Tapia, Saenz; Altimira, Cisse, Neyou, Hernandez; Raba, Diomande, Munir
