Sao Paulo vs Mirassol
Match preview
After finishing sixth last season, São Paulo fans would have hoped for a better start to this season. However, the Sovereigns failed to win any of their first four matches, before managing a 2-1 triumph over Santos in the fifth round of fixtures.
Following this victory, the home side went on a three-match winless streak, which ended with a 2-1 win over Grêmio last time out.
The Club of Faith found themselves behind after Alexander Aravena scored in the 37th minute, but Luis Zubeldia's team equalised in the 49th minute through Robert Arboleda, before Andre Silva's penalty completed the comeback.
Heading into this fixture, the home side will be feeling confident, having dominated the last five meetings between the two teams — a run which includes three wins and two draws.
Furthermore, Luis Zubeldia's team have remained unbeaten at home, with two wins and three draws in their last five matches, so Mirassol will certainly have their work cut out.
Although Mirassol did not register their first win in the Brazilian top division until gameweek four, they did so in grand style by thumping former champions Grêmio 4-1 on 16 April.
However, the newcomers could not build on this result and went three games without a win before returning to form with a 2-1 victory over Corinthians in Gameweek 8.
Mirassol could have recorded another famous win in their last match, but could not hold on in the final 13 minutes against Corinthians, drawing one-all after taking the lead as early as the eighth minute.
This leaves them in 12th place in the current season standings with nine points from 11 matches.
Despite being in the bottom half of the table, Eduardo Barroca will be pleased with his team's performance in their debut season so far, considering they have the second-best scoring record in the league with 14 goals.
A win for the visitors will see them overtake the home team, and it will be their first victory against the hosts since July 2020.
