Slot offered final remarks about departing full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, emphasizing the need for him to strengthen his defensive skills, as the Dutch manager noted that he was not always satisfied with the right-back's work ethic during training sessions. Now, England manager Thomas Tuchel has endorsed these observations, stating that the 26-year-old does not place sufficient emphasis on defensive discipline and effort.

Speaking to reporters, Tuchel explained: "I observe that he often focuses heavily on his offensive contributions and does not emphasize defensive discipline and effort as much. The significant impact he has had at Liverpool over the years means that, if he aims to replicate this in the England national team, he must take the defensive aspect very seriously."

He continued: "In qualifying matches and tournaments, a single defensive mistake or momentary lapse can be decisive, potentially leading to elimination and early departure."

The former Chelsea manager added: "We implemented a back three in his initial England appearances against Albania and Latvia, with Kyle Walker or Reece James holding the back line and Myles Lewis-Skelly shifting into midfield from left-back. This shifted from a 4-1 to a 3-2 formation in possession."

"However, this setup would not suit Trent well. It aligns with his passing ability and range but places him too deep, requiring aggressive recovery runs and counter-pressing, which do not match his strengths. We must identify a role that fits him best."

The defender, set to join Real Madrid, may play his last match for his lifelong club on Sunday, as Liverpool faces Crystal Palace in their season finale at Anfield.
