The Brazilian winger was dismissed from the Premier League and labeled as one of the worst signings of all time before joining the Spanish club. In Andalusia, he has demonstrated that he might not have been the problem, delivering five goals and two assists in 17 La Liga appearances. The full extent of Antony's influence on Betis is clear from the league standings before and after his arrival; as reported by TNT Sports, only Barcelona (43 points) and Villarreal (33 points) have earned more points than Betis's 33 in those 17 games. Antony has truly enjoyed his time in La Liga.
Posting on Instagram, Antony said: "What an honor to compete in this La Liga season. A competition I have always loved since childhood. Thank you to everyone for the encouragement and unwavering support. We keep pushing forward; we still have goals to achieve! Mucho Betis."
Antony joined Manchester United for £85 million ($109m) ahead of the 2022-23 season. He scored on his debut against Arsenal, leading Old Trafford fans to view him as their long-term right-sided forward. At the time, United's manager Erik ten Hag, who had previously worked with Antony at Ajax, saw the transfer as one of the summer's major coups. However, after eight goals in his first season and just three in his second, Antony's career at United seemed to falter, with no clear future—until his move to Betis.
While Antony has excelled in La Liga, his standout performances have come in the Europa Conference League. In eight games, he has recorded four goals and three assists, helping propel Betis to the final. This display highlights the attacking prowess that Manchester United lacked during their European campaigns.
Having already secured a spot in the Europa League for next season, Betis can approach the Europa Conference League final with minimal pressure. Antony will have another opportunity to prove to English fans and media that they were premature in writing him off. Betis will face Chelsea in Poland on Wednesday.
