Matheus Nunes might soon join Nottingham Forest, potentially igniting a major overhaul at Manchester City's Etihad Stadium this summer.

This could smooth the path for Manchester City to acquire Morgan Gibbs-White, aged 25, in a reciprocal move.

Nunes, 26, tops the wish list of Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who greatly admires the £53 million Portuguese midfielder.

Manchester City officials indicate they are willing to accept around £35 million to part ways with Nunes.

A deal for England midfielder Gibbs-White would likely cost nearly double that amount, making Nunes a valuable asset in negotiations.

Nunes has featured in 25 Premier League matches this season, starting 18 of them.

Many of his outings have been at full-back, rather than in midfield.

Last month, Pep Guardiola surprised fans by stating that Nunes lacks the tactical awareness to excel in midfield.

The 54-year-old Guardiola commented after a 0-0 draw with Manchester United: "He could develop into a strong right-back due to his physical attributes.

"I believe he's not suited for midfield because he lacks the composure, but he possesses remarkable skills and is improving steadily.

"With his focus and physicality, he can contribute effectively in that role."

Meanwhile, Gibbs-White has shone brightly for Nottingham Forest this season.

The 25-year-old has notched seven goals and provided 10 assists in 33 Premier League appearances.

His standout performances have secured him a spot in Thomas Tuchel's recent England squad.
