Everton squad in full as four more first-team players could leave for free

The scale of the rebuild required at Everton this summer is becoming increasingly clear as the club pursues clarity on four remaining stars.

New deals have been offered to Seamus Coleman and Idrissa Gueye, while the club said it remained in talks with Michael Keane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Three weeks into the close season and with current contracts set to expire at the end of the month, the prospect of some of those players leaving is growing.

Should none of them extend their stays at the club then the Blues will enter July with just 15 players in the senior squad - that includes new signing Carlos Alcaraz, reserve goalkeeper Harry Tyrer and teen starlet Harrison Armstrong.

The departures confirmed thus far leave a gaping hole in the goalkeeping department, where Jordan Pickford is the only figure with top flight experience. The exits of Joao Virginia and Asmir Begovic, who were both consistent features of the matchday squad last season, mean Harry Tyrer could step up to the first team.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed positive loan spells at Chesterfield then Blackpool but David Moyes will need at least one figure with more experience to bridge the gap between Pickford and Tyrer. Billy Crellin played at Accrington Stanley last season but is set to be released, along with Slovenia youth international Zan-Luk Leban.

There remains promise in the academy - George Pickford had a good season with the Under-21s last year and 17-year-old Douglass Lukjanciks is a highly-rated England youth international. Fraser Barnsley has been offered a new deal.

At the back, Everton could field a full back four even if Seamus Coleman and Michael Keane were to depart. Nathan Patterson, James Tarkowski, Jarrad Branthwaite, Jake O’Brien and Vitalii Mykolenko would enable David Moyes to have some choices - though he is expected to seek a right back to challenge for the starting spot and would like left back cover. Should Keane, who is being eyed by several clubs, depart then a fourth centre back may be required.

Further forward, James Garner finished the season with a run in the first team and would be the most senior central midfielder should Gueye leave. Tim Iroegbunam, who ended the season with an injury would remain alongside him, while the squad getting to 15 would require England U18s international Harrison Armstrong being kept with the main group after an impressive loan stint at Derby County.

Moyes is hoping to strengthen in the middle of the pitch but his priority is arguably the right wing, where the end of the loan deals for Jesper Lindstrom and Jack Harrison mean he has no senior options. Iliman Ndiaye and Dwight McNeil have both featured on that flank but are preferred off the left, while Alcaraz has performed best in a central attacking role.

Ahead of them Beto - the subject of interest from Leeds United - and Youssef Chermiti, who has limited first team experience and could be considered for a loan move, would be the remaining options should Calvert-Lewin leave.

First team players contracted beyond the end of June, as it stands:

Goalkeepers: Jordan Pickford; Harry Tyrer; Defenders: Nathan Patterson, James Tarkowski, Jarrad Branthwaite, Jake O’Brien, Vitalii Mykolenko; Midfielders: James Garner, Tim Iroegbunam, Harrison Armstrong; Forwards: Carlos Alcaraz, Dwight McNeil, Iliman Ndiaye, Beto, Youssef Chermiti
