Arsenal made a 65 million euro offer to Sporting CP for Jockey, but the offer was lower than Sporting CP's requirements.

It is understood that the offer was made at a meeting yesterday, which was held on the Spanish island of Menorca and attended by Arsenal's sporting director Andrea Berta, a club lawyer and Sporting CP's football director Bernardo Palmero.

It was revealed that the offer amounts were lower than Sporting CP's requirements. Sporting CP chairman Varandas made it clear in an interview with the media that he would not let Jockey go for less than 70 million euros, which is the amount the player and his agent believed was promised last September.

However, Varandas had a different story, insisting that the only thing he promised to Jockey's agent was that he would not ask to trigger the player's release clause, which was set at 100 million euros.

Until yesterday morning, there had been no specific offers for the player, which was confirmed by Varandas. But things changed in the late afternoon, when Palmeiros met with Berta in Menorca, and Arsenal's first official offer for Yorkes was presented to Sporting CP.

Sporting CP's response to Arsenal's attempt was predictable, as the offer fell short of Varandas' previously stated bottom line. Nevertheless, people are still looking forward to Sporting CP's official response to this move, and it may not be Arsenal's last attempt.
