Igor Jesus scored the only goal of the game in the first half, leading Botafogo to a stunning 1-0 win over the reigning European champions, Paris Saint-Germain, in the Club World Cup on Thursday in Pasadena, California.

This result puts Botafogo (2-0-0, 6 points) top of Group B, with PSG (1-1-0, 3 points) tied for second place alongside Atlético Madrid, who beat Seattle Sounders 3-1 earlier on Thursday.

The decisive moment came when Botafogo's Jefferson Savarino rolled a pass from midfield into the attacking half. Jesus ran onto the ball between Paris Saint-Germain defenders and took a shot from the top of the 18-yard box that bounced once before nestling into the bottom left corner of the net.

Botafogo goalkeeper John made two saves to keep a clean sheet. PSG's Gianluigi Donnarumma stopped three shots.

PSG finished with a 16-4 advantage in shots, though Botafogo had a 4-2 edge in shots on target.

This unexpected defeat caused Paris Saint-Germain to drop to second place in the group, while Atlético Madrid are on the verge of elimination.
