Paul Mullin, the star player of Wrexham's team that has rapidly climbed England's football leagues after being acquired by Hollywood celebrities, has departed the club to join League One team Wigan on a season-long loan.

"I'm excited for the next chapter in my career," Mullin stated to Wigan's official website on Monday. "I've scored many goals in recent years, but above all, I commit fully to the club I represent, and I'll do the same at Wigan."

Wigan noted that the loan agreement requires approval from the English Football League, the Football Association, and international clearance.

Mullin played a key role in helping Wrexham become the first team in English football's top five divisions to achieve three consecutive promotions, and a large mural of the 30-year-old striker adorns the city center.

He developed a strong bond with Ryan Reynolds, one of the club's owners, leading to his appearance in the latest 'Deadpool' film.

However, Mullin, who was named Wrexham's player of the season for the previous three years, had a limited role when the team earned promotion to the second tier last season.

This marks a surprising shift for a player who featured prominently in the acclaimed 'Welcome to Wrexham' documentary, produced by Reynolds and Rob McElhenney to document their journey as new football club owners.

McElhenney previously praised Mullin as 'one of the greatest football players in the world.'

Mullin has netted 110 goals in 172 appearances for Wrexham.
