Super Eagles and Fulham defender, Calvin Bassey has bemoaned his side’s draw against Tottenham Hotspur yesterday, claiming they deserved all three points.
Marco Silva’s side were stunned by Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Craven Cottage last week, losing 4-1 in front of their home fans as the away side carted away their first win on the road.
In a bid to bounce back, Fulham took the bull by the horn against Ange Postecoglu’s Tottenham, with Alex Iwobi firing on all fronts, creating two chances and getting a goal denied by the crossbar.
Tom Cairney came on in the 62nd minute to level the game for Fulham, courtesy of Iwobi’s brilliant hold up play after Brennan Johnson had broken the deadlock for Spurs. However, the Fulham captain was given his marching orders about twenty minutes after he came on for a rash challenge on Dejan Kulusevski.
Bassey, speaking after the game, revealed he was disappointed his side could only claim a point at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.
“I think it’s a hard one, I think we deserved more. They had Fraser Forster who pulled out three top saves that could have been goals. We were unlucky.
We also had a man sent off when we started gaining momentum, but on a positive note, we were able to maintain it to make sure we didn’t concede late as we’ve done in a couple games now. We were composed, and dealt with it well,” the former Rangers defender told Fulham TV.
“No matter who we play, we’re confident in our abilities and what we can do and we trust what the manager is doing and we’ve had success from it.
We’re going to keep playing out that way and sometimes we get caught, but we could have gone on to win.
We needed a reaction after the loss against Wolves, and hopefully, we gave a good impression to the fans again. We’ve got a busy week, so it’s nice to go with some confidence into the next few games. It’s a busy schedule, but you can’t complain,” the 24-year-old concluded.
Fulham welcome Brighton and Hove Albion to the Craven Cottage on Thursday before they welcome Arsenal to the same on Sunday.
