Kevin De Bruyne will not extend his Manchester City contract to participate in the Club World Cup, according to The Mirror.
The midfielder is departing from City this summer as his contract expires, after he expressed surprise at not receiving a new offer.
Aston Villa has conducted internal discussions regarding a potential surprise transfer for the soon-to-be free agent, who turns 34 in June, as reported by Sky Sports.
De Bruyne's contract ends at the end of June, which falls midway through the Club World Cup in Miami.
Players have the option to extend their contracts by an additional two weeks to compete in FIFA's expanded tournament.
However, De Bruyne appears set to say goodbye to City fans on the final day of the Premier League season on May 25 at Fulham, according to The Mirror.
The Belgian's last home game at the Etihad Stadium will be against Bournemouth.
