Torino vs Inter Milan

Match preview

Hailed by some as 'the greatest European tie of all time', Inter's 7-6 victory over Barcelona - played over two intense legs at the Montjuic and in Milan - brought out the best in the reigning Italian champions.

With just three minutes remaining on Tuesday night, Barca were 3-2 up, but veteran defender Francesco Acerbi popped up in the opposition box to score the equaliser that sent the game into extra time.

In the extra 30 minutes, Davide Frattesi fired home what proved to be the winner, sparking wild scenes at the San Siro - with the substitute midfielder almost passing out from his celebrations.

As they prepare to take on a young Paris Saint-Germain side in the final of this season's Champions League, Simone Inzaghi's experienced side must first turn their attention back to the domestic scene.

Before attempting to lift the European Cup for a fourth time in Munich, Inter face Torino, Lazio and Como in the top flight, where they trail leaders Napoli by three points after a series of setbacks.

Despite beating Hellas Verona on home soil last week, Inzaghi will be concerned by his side's decline in form: after eight consecutive away wins, the Nerazzurri have won just one of their last seven league games away from home.

Moreover, Inter are one of only two teams in the top half of the table to have failed to keep consecutive clean sheets this calendar year - a sign that their legs are beginning to tire with a continental final and the new Club World Cup still to come.

But having won all five of their last league meetings with the Turin giants, keeping four clean sheets in the process, the Nerazzurri will be looking to continue both trends in Turin before Napoli kick off three hours later.

In addition to a 3-2 defeat in Milan earlier this season, Torino have lost 14 of their last 20 home games against Inter, so history will weigh heavily against them this weekend.

The Granata also have little to play for other than a possible top-half finish, as they have been safe for several weeks now and have never really threatened European qualification.

Last time out, a late Nikola Vlasic penalty salvaged a 1-1 draw at home to relegation-threatened Venezia, leaving Toro 11th in the standings, with Como and Udinese their main rivals for a place in the final top 10.

The goal also maintained their impressive record as one of only four teams in Serie A - along with Bologna, Roma and Napoli - not to have lost at home in 2025.

In fact, Paolo Vanoli's men are unbeaten in nine top-flight matches as hosts, and they could now reach 10 for the first time since 1995 by ending Inter's quest for consecutive Scudetti.

Team News

Having rested 10 first-choice players in last week's win over Verona, Simone Inzaghi could make further changes in Turin with the Champions League decider on the horizon.

Inter captain Lautaro Martinez, who came on as a last-minute substitute, played through pain before being replaced in midweek, so Mehdi Taremi, Joaquin Correa and Marko Arnautovic will all be considered.

Marcus Thuram, who has scored four times against the Turin club so far - including his only career hat-trick at San Siro last October - may be tempted to continue up front, but he could also be forced out.

Benjamin Pavard, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and semi-final hero Davide Frattesi have all been ruled out.

Meanwhile, Karol Linetty is back in full training, but Yann Karamoh and key midfielder Samuele Ricci are injury doubts.

In the long-term absence of captain Duvan Zapata, Toro's attack is usually spearheaded by nine-goal top scorer Che Adams, although Antonio Sanabria started last week - both strikers should be supported by Nikola Vlasic.

After netting his fifth goal of the campaign against Venezia, Vlasic could equal his personal best for a single Serie A season if he can find the back of the net again.
