Rumours of a potential exit first emerged last week, when it was reported that Rodrygo was considering leaving and that Los Blancos were open to selling him. Further details then emerged, revealing that Rodrygo is seeking guarantees from incoming manager Xabi Alonso regarding his future role at the club.

Los Blancos want the matter resolved swiftly. According to Marca, a decision is expected in the coming days. If Rodrygo has doubts about his situation, they will seek to move him on. His absence from El Clásico was not fitness-related, according to a different account to that given by Carlo Ancelotti.

Cadena SER corroborates this information, saying that a move for Rodrygo is 'expected', in addition to the exits of Lucas Vázquez, Luka Modrić and Jesús Vallejo.
