- Ipswich Town will be looking to end a frustrating season on a high note when they host West Ham United in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon. The Tractor Boys continued their poor form at home to Leicester City last time out, with the Hammers being the latest victims of Nottingham Forest.
After automatic promotion from the Championship last season, Ipswich Town returned to the Premier League for the first time in more than two decades, but the home side on Sunday afternoon found the task too daunting, with the East Anglian side set to return to the second tier immediately. The Tractor Boys' poor run extended to seven games last weekend, as goals from Leicester City legend Jamie Vardy and youngster Cathy McAteer helped Leicester City win at the King Power Stadium, with both teams set to exit the top flight in the coming days.
Kieran McKenna’s side have picked up just two points from their last seven top-flight games and are 19th in the Premier League table ahead of their home game against West Ham United this weekend, 16 points behind 17th-placed Tottenham Hotspur. It is no surprise that the Tractor Boys are preparing for a Championship campaign after Ipswich won just once in 18 games at Portman Road this season, with their last Premier League triumph coming against Chelsea in December. While McKenna aims to retain a core of players in the squad in order to compete for a place in the second tier next season, there is no doubt that a number of stars will leave this summer, including top scorer Liam Delap, who is coveted by the likes of Manchester United and Newcastle United.
Graham Potter will take charge of West Ham United at the London Stadium in January for his first stint as manager, but has been met with mixed reviews. The former Swansea City and Chelsea boss has won just four of his 18 games in charge so far, losing nine. West Ham's most recent defeat came in east London to Championship-chasing Nottingham Forest, who took maximum points in the English capital thanks to goals from Morgan Gibbs-White and defender Nikola Milenkovic around the half-time whistle.
Potter's side sit unsurprisingly in 15th place in the table with just one win in their last 10 Premier League games, and could drop as low as 17th if the final round of results go against them. West Ham have just five wins from 18 league games this season, but they haven't been great away from home, winning at home to Arsenal in February and beating Manchester United at the Theatre of Dreams earlier this month.
Ipswich predicted starting lineup:
Palmer; Tuanzebe, O'Shea, Greaves, Davis; Mossy, Taylor; Hutchinson, Enciso, Clarke; Hurst
West Ham predicted starting lineup:
Areola; Todibo, Kilman, Cresswell; Coufal, Alvarez, Soler, Wan-Bissaka; Kudus, Bowen; Fulkrug
