The 38-year-old Uruguayan forward is facing the recovery from a muscle injury just days before the debut against Benfica in the United States.
With 12 days to go before Boca Juniors' debut against Benfica in the FIFA Club World Cup, Uruguayan Edinson Cavani is causing concern due to his physical condition and is "unlikely" to be available for the first match of the international competition to be held in the United States.
Cavani, 38, who had suffered a calf tear prior to the Superclásico against River Plate, aggravated the injury in the elimination against Independiente in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Opening Tournament. Since May 20, he has been training separately and still needs time to be 100% recovered.
"I've been talking to him, I understand the needs, but I ask him to be calm, to relax, not to rush. One more day is better than 10 days less," said Miguel Ángel Russo in a conversation with Radio Continental.
At this rate, the 'Matador' is almost ruled out for the debut against Benfica on June 16 in Miami and they are aiming for him to be available for the match against Bayern Munich to be played on June 20 in the same city.
Edinson Cavani will be part of the delegation that will depart on Sunday night for the United States and will surely continue with the physical recovery work at the site where Boca Juniors will be staying in Fort Lauderdale.
