Norway entered this international camp, which includes a match against Estonia next Monday, with their key players available, allowing coach Stale Solbakken to field a consistent lineup on Friday night.
In UEFA qualifying, Norway's captain Martin Odegaard has provided assists for four of their nine goals so far, while Erling Haaland continued his scoring form with a goal in each game, reaching 40 goals in 41 international appearances for the Manchester City striker.
Atletico Madrid's Alexander Sorloth is expected to join them in attack, with Sander Berge and Patrick Berg anchoring the midfield.
In contrast, Italy is dealing with significant challenges due to several player withdrawals.
Besides Juventus midfielder Manuel Locatelli withdrawing with an ankle injury, coach Luciano Spalletti must address defensive issues; notably, Inter Milan's veteran Francesco Acerbi declined a recall, citing disrespectful comments from Spalletti about his age earlier this year.
Additionally, Riccardo Calafiori is absent once more, while Alessandro Buongiorno (thigh injury) and Matteo Gabbia (calf injury) have pulled out. Daniele Rugani, on loan at Ajax, was called up for the first time in six years to replace one of them.
This creates uncertainty about the starting back three in front of captain Gianluigi Donnarumma, who is likely still boosted by his Champions League victory with Paris Saint-Germain.
Spalletti might hesitate to start two strikers against tough opposition, but Moise Kean has had his best Serie A season yet, Giacomo Raspadori has regained favor at Scudetto champions Napoli, and Mateo Retegui was named Capocannoniere.
Norway possible starting lineup:
Nyland; Ryerson, Ostigard, Ajer, Wolfe; Odegaard, Berge, Berg, Schjelderup; Sorloth, Haaland
Italy possible starting lineup:
Donnarumma; Di Lorenzo, Gatti, Bastoni; Cambiaso, Barella, Ricci, Tonali, Udogie; Raspadori, Kean
