Wales will continue their quest to qualify for the 2026 World Cup when they take on Liechtenstein at Cardiff City Stadium on Friday. Wales have already collected four points from their first two qualifying games, with the visitors suffering a series of defeats at the start of the season.
Craig Bellamy has had a strong start as Wales head coach, winning four and drawing four in his first eight games since taking over last summer. Bellamy's side have 12 points from six Nations League games, finishing first in a group that includes Turkey, Iceland and Montenegro.
After being promoted to League A at the end of 2024, Wales played their first game of the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign in March 2025, beating Kazakhstan 3-1 at home. Just a few days later, the Dragons looked set to narrowly lose when North Macedonia's Bojan Miovski broke the deadlock in the 91st minute, but David Brooks scored a late equaliser to tie the game at 1-1. Second-placed Wales are now level on four points with leaders North Macedonia, but know Belgium are favourites to win the group and they haven't even started their qualifying campaign yet.
Wales travel to the Belgian capital on Monday for a crucial qualifier, but before that they will be trying to avoid any slip-ups against a side they have beaten three times before, including two 2-0 wins over Liechtenstein in 2010 World Cup qualifying.
Liechtenstein know they face a tough task heading into the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, having lost 19 of their last two qualifying games. In fact, the underdogs have failed to win any of their last four World Cup qualifiers and have not scored more than four goals in any of their qualifying rounds.
Liechtenstein started the season on a losing streak at home, losing 0-3 to North Macedonia and then 0-2 to Kazakhstan. Konrad Finvstark's side have lost four consecutive international matches since a draw with Gibraltar in the Nations League in October. They will be ready for another difficult match on Friday, having failed to score in their three previous meetings with Wales. The visitors have not won an away international match since a 2-1 friendly win over Luxembourg in October 2020.
Wales predicted starting lineup:
Dallow; Roberts, Rodon, Davies, Williams; Ampadu, Thomas; Johnson, Wilson, James; Cullen
Liechtenstein predicted starting lineup:
Butcher, Traber, Witsel, Obervadice; Kindle, Luchinger, Hasler, Sele, Hofer; Saranovic, Pizzi
