The Oklahoma City Thunder, the NBA's top team in the 2024-25 season, concluded their campaign with a historic championship.
The Thunder defeated the Pacers 103-91 in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, securing their first title since relocating from Seattle to Oklahoma City. Following a dominant 68-14 regular season, the team amassed 84 wins overall, tying the 1996-97 Chicago Bulls for the third most in NBA history.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who earned both the regular season MVP and Finals MVP honors, delivered an outstanding performance with 29 points, 12 assists, and 5 rebounds. He joins an elite group as only the third player to achieve at least 25 points and 12 assists in an NBA Finals Game 7, alongside Walt Frazier and Jerry West.
The Pacers faced a major setback early in the first quarter when Tyrese Haliburton suffered an Achilles injury while driving to the basket. Despite battling a calf strain from Game 5 and playing through pain in Game 6, his absence in the final game left Indiana without the necessary offensive strength to counter the Thunder's formidable defense.
Oklahoma City claimed the franchise's first championship since 1979, when they were the Seattle Supersonics. Fans can expect an exhilarating championship parade.
