After a delayed start, the deal to send Ansu Fati to Monaco is now gaining momentum. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, negotiations between Barcelona and the French club have intensified in recent days, with an agreement nearly finalized. Fati is set to undergo a medical examination later this week, a crucial step before the transfer is officially confirmed.

Ansu needs to be playing regularly

Barcelona's sporting director Deco was straightforward in a recent interview with La Vanguardia. He stressed that the team's No. 10 cannot afford another season on the bench, as seen under coach Hansi Flick. 'At his age, with his promising career ahead, he can't go another year without playing,' Deco stated. 'We are open to enabling his exit. Monaco has discussed this with us, and the player prefers a loan move.'

The loan deal for Ansu Fati had previously stalled over a key issue: financial terms. Monaco was reluctant to cover Fati's full salary, while Barcelona, aiming to reduce their wage bill, was unwilling to subsidize the difference. Monaco offered to pay only 40% of his wages, which Barcelona considered too low.

Additionally, the clubs disagreed on the purchase option structure. Barcelona sought to maintain control over Fati's future, possibly through a buy-back clause or a share of any future sale. Monaco advocated for more favorable conditions, including a non-obligatory purchase option valued at around €12 million (approximately $13 million).

Once the loan agreement between Barcelona and Monaco is officially sealed—which could happen soon—many outstanding issues will be resolved. The two clubs, who competed in this season's Champions League, are finalizing the details.

Regardless of the specifics, one clear benefit for Barcelona is substantial salary cap relief. Ansu Fati's earnings are among the highest in the squad (he is the fifth-highest earner at around $15 million net per year), and reducing this expense will provide much-needed financial flexibility as the club restructures its roster.
