RFU chief Bill Sweeney is eager to host Chelsea's games at Twickenham while the Premier League club redevelops Stamford Bridge.

Sweeney aims to maximize revenue from the 82,000-capacity venue, the home of English rugby, and is open to the Blues using it temporarily.

Chelsea plans to expand Stamford Bridge to accommodate 60,000 fans instead of the current 42,000, requiring a temporary stadium during construction.

Tottenham Hotspur played at Wembley from 2017 to 2019 while building their new stadium, and hosting Chelsea for a few seasons could provide the RFU with a significant financial boost.

Sweeney confirms that Twickenham is licensed for Premier League matches but worries that Richmond Council might block the move due to concerns about local residents and fan numbers.

Sweeney stated: "It would generate a substantial financial benefit. The license permits it, and we've had prior discussions about Premier League clubs using the venue.

"Richmond Council is particularly sensitive regarding the impact on local residents, crowd sizes, and related issues.

"The decision might depend on the club involved, but I know they would engage in discussions about it."

Sweeney has recently threatened to relocate England's rugby base from Twickenham to the Midlands, with Milton Keynes as a potential option, amid a dispute over Beyoncé concerts.

Twickenham couldn't accommodate the American singer's six performances at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer due to limits on non-sporting events.
