Inter Milan is set to play their seventh Champions League final this Saturday, but in an unprecedented move: they'll wear their yellow third kit. The traditional black and blue stripes were not an option, as PSG, the designated home team, will don their blue home kit. Instead of choosing their white away kit, the Italian club has selected the yellow alternative.
Inter Milan Players Choose Yellow Kit for the Champions League Final
Featuring black details inspired by Milanese architecture, the yellow shirt was picked by the players for a specific reason.
As per La Gazzetta dello Sport, superstition was the key factor. Inter's only Champions League defeat this season occurred in white, against Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen in December. In yellow, they've achieved two European wins—against Sparta Prague and Feyenoord—plus five more in the Champions League. Goalkeeper Yann Sommer wore it during the historic 4-3 victory over Barcelona at San Siro.
Inter fans have grounds for optimism without the black and blue. In 1998, wearing grey and black, a Ronaldo-led Inter won the UEFA Cup with a 3-0 triumph over Lazio, using that kit for all home games. White has also proven lucky: in the 1965 European Cup final against Benfica, they secured a 1-0 win via a goal from Jair.
