Carlo Ancelotti, the current Real Madrid manager, is set to be appointed as the new head coach of the Brazil men's national team, according to AS.
When will Ancelotti leave Real Madrid?
The Italian is expected to take charge of the Brazilian team in June, during two crucial qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
He will not lead Real Madrid in this summer's expanded Club World Cup, held in the United States from mid-June to mid-July.
How much will Ancelotti earn as Brazil's coach?
Ancelotti is slated to earn approximately $11 million per year as Brazil's head coach, with the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) preparing a contract for the 65-year-old that runs until the end of the 2026 World Cup in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
His contract includes an option to extend until the 2030 World Cup, primarily hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.
Ancelotti to replace sacked Dorival
Although no official agreement has been signed, AS reports that Ancelotti has informed members of his Real Madrid team about his upcoming role as Brazil's new coach.
Despite considering former Flamengo coach Jorge Jesus, CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues has shown long-term interest in Ancelotti, with initial talks held in 2023.
The CBF plans to announce Ancelotti's appointment only after his departure from Real Madrid at the end of the season.
The five-time Champions League winner will replace Dorival Júnior, who was dismissed last month following a 4-1 loss to Argentina—Brazil's fifth defeat in their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.
Brazil, which last won the World Cup in 2002, currently holds the fourth automatic qualifying spot in South America's 10-team tournament.
They will face Ecuador on June 3 and Paraguay on June 8 in their next qualifiers.
Three-time European champion with Real
In his second stint as Real Madrid's head coach, Ancelotti has secured two LaLiga titles, three Champions League trophies, two Copas del Rey, two Spanish Super Cups, three UEFA Super Cups, two Club World Cups, and one FIFA Intercontinental Cup.
This season, however, has been challenging, with Real Madrid exiting the Champions League quarter-finals against Arsenal and losing the finals of the Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup to rivals Barcelona.
Barcelona leads LaLiga, with Real Madrid in second place, four points behind, and five games remaining.
