Dortmund regards Lyon midfielder Cherki as one of its targets this summer. The French club wants 40 million euros for the player, and the club's chairman John Texter seems to have no intention of letting the player transfer to Dortmund.
The report said that Dortmund especially wants to strengthen the midfield after qualifying for the Champions League next season. In addition to Job Bellingham, the 21-year-old Cherki is still at the top of Dortmund's target list. Now, Lyon, which is in extremely tight financial situation, hopes to sell the midfielder at a high price as soon as possible.
But Dortmund faces a difficult game for this player: because although Cherki's contract has only one year left, it is reported that Lyon suddenly asked for a transfer fee of 40 million euros for him.
In this personnel issue, in addition to the obviously high asking price, there is another factor that makes things more complicated and difficult: Lyon's maverick chairman John Terkester still seems to have no interest in letting Cherki play for Dortmund in the future.
In the previous winter transfer window, Dortmund tried to make an offer but failed. Terkester then made a vulgar attack on Dortmund on Instagram: "Dortmund talked to us, and I'm happy to tell them: they can get out!"
It is reported that during the winter window, Cherki had received a verbal promise that he could leave the team with an offer of about 22.5 million euros, but Terkester suddenly regretted and denied the existence of the agreement. Now it's even more tricky: Cherki has delivered excellent data this season, contributing 12 goals and 22 assists in 44 official games.
Obviously, some of his world-class performances have also attracted the attention of other clubs. In addition to AC Milan, Manchester United has also included him in the target list. But it is reported that Cherki himself has repeatedly emphasized that he is very eager to play for Dortmund. Now, signing Cherki will be a difficult task for Dortmund top management Ricken and Kehl.
